In the late 1980s, Anne Whitehouse began working as Development Consultant for Sanctuary for Familes under the direction of Suzi Epstein, now Director of Jobs and Economic Security at the Robin Hood Foundation. In 1996, Anne Whitehouse went to Graham-Windham Services for Families and Children, and left a year later to become Special Projects Manager at DOROT, a multi-service agency which assists frail elderly through a partnership of professionals and volunteers.

During the past decade, she has seen DOROT triple in size and expand throughout the greater New York metropolitan area. At DOROT Anne Whitehouse works in Development and Public Information. In addition to preparing proposals and other fund raising documents, she is senior staff writer for the Generations newsletter and Gala Journal and also writes brochures and other materials for print and the website.

Since 1995, Anne Whitehouse has also been Development Consultant at American Opera Projects, Inc., an arts organization devoted to commissioning and developing new works of opera and music theater. One of the operas she worked on was Paula Kimper and Wende Persons' Patience & Sarah, which premiered at the 1998 Lincoln Center Festival.
